A wishlistLooking back at an old article I wrote about my dream RPG sequels for the PS3, I’ve found myself revisiting the games I wished for back then and adding some new ideas for what I’d love to see in the future. In that post, I shared a list of sequels I was hoping to see, highlighting some of my personal favorites along with a few honorable mentions. Now, I want to revisit that list with updated thoughts and a fresh batch of ideas for what I’d love to see next.

At the time, Valkyria Chronicles 4 was at the top of my list. The Valkyria Chronicles series remains one of my all-time favorites, thanks to its unique blend of strategy and RPG elements. The original Valkyria Chronicles was one of my most memorable PS3 experiences, and although Valkyria Revolution wasn’t exactly what I hoped for, we did eventually get Valkyria Chronicles 4. It keeps the essence of the series while adding new layers of depth. I haven’t played it too much yet, but from what I’ve seen so far, it feels like a perfect mix of Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 3. Plus, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is multiplatform, available on almost every system except Android and iOS.

In that original article, I also wished for sequels to Chrono Trigger, Radiata Stories, and games in the Tales series (there weren’t any localized Tales games for PS3 until Fall 2011). Since then, we’ve gotten Tales of Graces, Tales of Xillia (which I loved), and a remaster of the Tales of Symphonia games to name a few. As for Star Ocean 5, it eventually came out — though I’ll admit, I haven’t played it yet, and only a scant few years ago we got Star Ocean 6 too!

If I were to update my wish list today, I’d definitely add a Radiata Stories remake or sequel to the list. That game holds a special place in my heart, and I think it deserves more attention. We did get Radiant Historia, which feels like a spiritual successor to Radiata Stories. It draws from teams that worked on Megami Tensei and tri-Ace titles, including Radiata Stories, although in retrospect it sort of felt like a cross between Radiata Stories and Chrono Cross.

Let’s not forget Skies of Arcadia — what an underrated classic! The world it created has so much untapped potential, and it would be amazing to see it revived either as a simple port or HD remaster.

One title that would have been on my wish list, was Tokyo Xtreme Racer, which made a return, oddly enough as a PC exclusive few months ago.

It’s impressive how certain games — whether they get sequels, remakes, or not — can still leave behind a legacy that inspires new projects. It’s exciting to think about how certain games—through remakes, sequels, or spiritual successors—can continue to influence our gaming wish lists.

Here’s what I’d love to see next:

  • A new Valkyria Chronicles game
  • A Chrono Trigger sequel
  • A Tales of Phantasia remake
  • A Skies of Arcadia remake, remaster, or port
  • A new Ace Attorney game

Let’s see what the future holds. Maybe we’ll get lucky and some of these dreams will come true.
