It was only a short, few months ago that Namco Bandai released a few pieces of artwork for their next “mothership” Tales game to celebrate the franchise’s 15th anniversary (which coincidentally is today!) and they even launched a site counting down the days to the next Tales game.

Well, the clock finally hit ZERO and we now know that this new Tales game is Tales of Xillia and it will be the first PS3-exclusive Tales game thanks to the minute and a half long promo that was posted with the game’s reveal. (more…)

Let’s take a break for a moment and let me throw down some honourable mentions as I near the last 2 JRPGs I feel are most deserving of a sequel or a presence on Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3). There are numerous titles I could mention amongst my Top 5, from a Tales game to Wild Arms or Valkyria Chronicles to even Valkyrie Profile, but it wouldn’t be a Top 5 if there were 8 items listed, would it? If you have been following this blog over the past few months you will know that one of the upcoming Wii titles I am really looking forward to is Mistwalker’s new RPG title, The Last Story. Over the course of the past few months we have heard details about the game such as the importance of sound, the presence of airships, different classes in society, and much more; yet we haven’t heard of a concrete date rather than an ambiguous 2010 release of the game in Japan. It was only recently that Mistwalker began to release details on the in-game character classes for their upcoming Nintendo Wii-exclusive, The Last Story, via their blog on the game’s official website. The development team followed this up by providing details on one of the landmarks in the game’s setting of Ruli Island, namely The Star Gazing Tower. Since these two updates we’ve seen the development team finally shedding some light on the main character and his female companion in this upcoming RPG title. (more…)

Earlier today Mistwalker posted yet another blog entry, although unlike previous entries this one contains only a single, fine piece of artwork displaying what very well might be the main character and potential love interest, whose appearance reminds me of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New Age’s heroine Marta Lualdi. In the new blog posting, the director and producer of the game discuss the Star Gazing Tower, a landmark on Ruli Island. (more…)

I think Mistwalker’s staff are turning into masters of teasing as they’ve posted their second update on the official Last Story website. With their most recent developers’ blog they posted up not only more artwork of the game locations but they also included a map of the city along with some text that sort of gives the impression of a sort of “Welcome to Ruli Island” sign (on a sidenote, the ‘R’ and ‘L’ sound are sort of interchangible in Japanese, explains the whole Ruri/Ruri thing). (more…)

A little over a month ago we finally heard of Mistwalker Corp’s latest project after months of speculation. Over the past few months we’ve heard bits and pieces on the blog of Mistwalker’s head, Hironobu Sakaguchi, as well as illustrations that were posted on the Mistwalker website were at best cryptic as to what the new game would be. Since the vague announcement last June it was expected that the newest game might be released on the X-Box 360, in light of Microsoft’s financial assistance when Mistwalker was founded, or even the Nintendo DS, as their most recent games were released for the DS. It came as a surprise when the new title was unveiled as coming to the Nintendo Wii with the launch of an official website which includes the game’s logo and a piece of music.
