Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker Uncut

It's weird how back in the days of the original Nintendo, and even to an extent today with the Nintendo Wii, censorship of Japanese-made games for a North American release occurred every so often. I recall that a few of the Final Fantasy games, for the Super Nintendo, had undergone minor in-game art alterations, such as covering up a scantily clad female monster. Even today there are some minor edits made, such as the change of wine to grape juice in the Ace Attorney series. It's unusual, however, when it's the other way around and Japan gets a major video game title, created by one of its developers, censored. In this case, it's the upcoming Metal Gear Solid game, Peacewalker, that is seeing some light censorship in the form of the removal of a scene that would increase the rating in Japan had it remained in the game.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker: Old School Gameplay

So I recently came across the latest, and last to focus on gameplay, trailer for the upcoming PSP Metal Gear Solid game and I came away quite impressed. In this 9-minute video clip, from Kojima Productions, we get to see that the game mechanics don't stray far from the mechanics we have come to enjoy in the previous console-based Metal Gear Solid games.

In the last third of the video we get to hear an extended version of the theme song, Heaven's Divide. This song, which gives off a sort of James Bond sort of feeling to it, was first premiered in the Tokyo Game Show trailer from last year which introduced us to the cast of characters in the game. In the Tokyo Game Show trailer we only heard over a minute of the song, but in this latest trailer we get to hear more of it. I can't wait to hear what the full version is like when it is it comes out April 7th.

Could this be Front Mission Evolved?

Originally posted: 05/01/2009

I just came across this just now via Kotaku, a new site was opened up by Square Enix entitled "NEW GAME". Could this be the recently rumoured Front Mission Evolved title for the X-Box 360 or something else entirely? Kotaku speculates that it could also be Vanguard Storm, a title that Kotaku believes was referred to as the "unannounced action game" from a screenshot published in the latest issue of The Official Playstation Magazine.

If you pay attention to the sounds in the media presented on this new Square Enix mystery game site, it almost sounds like wanzers in combat as there are moments when you hear missiles being launched and bullets hitting a metallic object, sort of like, well, a wanzer.

The decision has been rendered, the Unicorn Gundam is to come!

Originally posted: 04/27/2009, originally posted as Winter 2009, the decision finally animated!

As mentioned previously in my Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, the Gundam franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary (April 7th) and is releasing some interesting products to celebrate! Amongst the first products was the 18-metre tall, full-sized statue of the RX-78 Gundam - to be erected on Tokyo's Odaiba Island in July - and a new PS3 game called Mobile Suit Gundam Battlefield Record U.C. 0081. More recently a 2-set DVD compilation of Gundam opening and ending themes was announced for release this August. Despite all these announcements the best was yet to come.

Is the new Front Mission an X-Box 360 Exclusive?

Originally posted: 04/25/2009, originally posted as X-Box 360: A Front Mission is 360?

According to The Magic Box, via N4G, is reporting that Square Enix is working on a new Front Mission title, for the X-Box 360 called Front Mission Evolved, featuring a heroine as the main character. Apparently the game will include online duels and a soundtrack which will involved Skywalker Sound. Not sure how valid this rumour is, but it would be refreshing as Front Mission 4 was the last Front Mission title released for a home console in North America as of late. This reminds me, I should get around to playing and finishing Front Mission 4 one of these days.

Hideo Kojima: Pressure to work on Metal Gear

Originally posted: 04/16/2009

As he appears in a skit with Megas64So in my casual browsing of gaming news over the past few days I noticed that Hideo Kojima, creator of the Metal Gear series, Zone of the Enders, and Snatchers (a personal favourite), had an interview with Kikizo, a gaming news website, in which he made some interesting comments regarding work on Metal Gear as well as the recent phenomenon of Japanese developers wanting to become more like Western developers.
